Non-IAT Day, Door County

Friday, September 23rd, 2022

We are still at the Daisy Campground in Potawatomi State Park. I haven't seen any daisies, but I have seen a lot of other flora and fauna. Most notable in my memory was a visiting Pileated Woodpecker, who spent a long time hammering on a nearby log, seemingly indifferent to our nearby presence.

I took this photo below of our setup for cooking, and I realized just how many camping elements it captured accidentally. It almost looks like a set-up. Let's play hidden pictures! Can you spot:

  • Coffee Pot
  • Axe
  • Saw
  • Lantern
  • Tent
  • Folding Chair
  • Bottled Water
  • Travel Cup
  • Picnic Table

Here is Theresa enjoying the warm coffee, wearing her brand new fleece-lined jacket. She has one at home almost exactly like it. Except that home was a good two-hour drive away, and once we realized she had forgotten a good, warm set of outerwear to deal with the cold nights and mornings, it was easier to just buy a new coat while we were in Green Bay yesterday picking up the last of the supplies we needed for the event tomorrow.

The cold didn't last long. Pretty soon we were over at the shelter getting set up for tomorrow and by then the sun was out and it was no-sleeve weather again. For her, at least. We met these two women out hiking the segment, so naturally we added them to the Snails and invited them to the party tomorrow.

We have done everything we can think of to get ready. Tomorrow's event starts at 11:00, and we've heard from a lot of people who plan to be there. We're excited.

Hope to see you there!
